Maintenance Technician – HVAC Focus

Job Summary:

We are seeking a skilled and proactive Maintenance Technician with strong HVAC experience to join our team at NanoChem Solutions, Inc. This role is critical in ensuring the efficient operation, maintenance, and repair of processing equipment and facility systems—including air conditioning and heating units, dehumidifiers, and HVAC infrastructure. The ideal candidate will also possess experience handling refrigerants and hold a current EPA Section 608 certification for freon in the State of Illinois. Experience with boilers is a plus.

Key Responsibilities:

Equipment and Facility Maintenance:

  • Install, maintain, and troubleshoot HVAC systems, dehumidifiers, and air conditioning and heating units, ensuring reliable climate control across the facility.

  • Perform routine and preventative maintenance on processing equipment, including mixing tanks, spray dryers, powder blenders, milling equipment, and ovens.

  • Diagnose and repair issues across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.

  • Calibrate and test equipment for compliance with production and quality standards.

Preventative Maintenance:

  • Develop and execute maintenance plans for HVAC and environmental control systems, ensuring peak performance and energy efficiency.

  • Regularly inspect facility systems and equipment for early signs of wear or malfunction.

  • Maintain detailed records of service activities, including HVAC diagnostics and refrigerant handling logs.

Facility Support:

  • Assist with the installation, relocation, and removal of HVAC and process equipment.

  • Provide rapid response to facility temperature control issues that impact production operations.

  • Support boiler operations and maintenance as needed.

Safety and Compliance:

  • Maintain current certification and compliance with EPA refrigerant handling regulations (Section 608).

  • Follow OSHA safety standards and GMP requirements, particularly in relation to HVAC and freon usage.

  • Ensure all HVAC activities are carried out in accordance with environmental and safety regulations.

Collaboration and Training:

  • Train staff on proper operation of facility climate control systems.

  • Work collaboratively with contractors and vendors during HVAC upgrades or major repairs.

  • Support other departments with environmental or equipment-related needs.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent; technical or HVAC-specific certification preferred.

  • EPA 608 Certification required to handle freon in Illinois.

  • 3–5 years of experience in industrial or facility maintenance, with a strong focus on HVAC systems.

  • Hands-on knowledge of air conditioning units, heating systems, dehumidifiers, and HVAC diagnostics.

  • Familiarity with boilers is a plus.

  • Skilled in troubleshooting electrical, pneumatic, mechanical, and climate control systems.

  • Strong understanding of GMP standards and safety procedures.

  • Ability to read and interpret HVAC schematics and technical documents.

  • Physical ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform maintenance tasks on ladders or in tight spaces.

Work Environment:

  • Fast-paced manufacturing environment with HVAC, equipment, and chemical exposure.

  • Regular use of PPE required; includes working around heat, cold, and noise.

  • Occasional after-hours or weekend work may be required for system outages or maintenance emergencies.
